Supporting learners Mental Health during Covid19 - 2.5 hours
All young people have been affected by Covid19 and in particular the closing of schools, colleges and universities. There is still a lot of uncertainty ahead of us, and education continues to be interrupted. The impact of Covid19 has seen a huge rise in the number of children and young people experiencing mental health issues such as anxiety and low mood. Mental Health Services such as CAMHS are overrun with the demand that this is placing on them, and so teachers and other education staff are having to deal with the impact of this.
There is clear evidence that high and anxiety and low mood cause significant barriers to learning and can, in turn, cause other related issues such as more challenging behaviour, low attainment, poor attendance and even school refusal.
This short training session is suitable for all staff who work with children and young people in education settings such as schools and colleges.
This training is currently offered via Zoom, but is still interactive and allows attendees to share their ideas and experiences. As well as developing a better understanding of mental health difficulties the training will equip attendees with a “tool kit” of support strategies that will allow them to support their learners to the best of their abilities during the uncertain times ahead of us.
By the end of the session, attendees will:
· Understand the link between mental health and learning
· Understand the impact of Covid 19 on Mental Health, whilst exploring the many guises of anxiety
· Understand some basic CBT principles
· Gain practical strategies to support learners with their mental health, particularly during Covid 19
