Anna Maria Williams – Counsellor (MBACP/COSRT)​

I work as an integrative counsellor with adults (over 18) and with couples. 

I have worked at various organisations, including the YMCA and the NHS, and I run a private practice in East Grinstead, on the border of Surrey and West Sussex. 

As well as being a counsellor, I am also a parent and carer of two young men with autism, one with learning difficulties, and the other who displays a highly demand avoidant profile. This means I have over 20 years’ personal experience of autism, learning difficulties and, more recently, of PDA. 

I work with clients on issues such as anxiety management, anger management, stress, depression, mood swings, emotional regulation, gender dysphoria, OCD, family conflict or breakdown, among other difficulties.

I also counsel parents looking for support with the challenges involved in bringing up children with additional needs, the impact of this on their mental and physical wellbeing and on their relationships. My experiences as a parent allow me a deep level of empathy and understanding of the emotional extremes, the practical challenges and the personal impact this can have.

I offer a space to come and talk, or come and just be, in whatever way is comfortable for you. I can help to build self-awareness, resilience, explore feelings, find alternative ways of thinking and behaving, improve communication and expression, and identify helpful tools, techniques and coping strategies. Or I can simply listen, acknowledge, empathise and support, without judgment.

My Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Integrative Counselling

  • Diploma in Psychosexual & Relationship Counselling

  • Diploma in Counselling Children & Young People (current)

  • Level 2 qualification in Supporting Children, Teenagers and Young Adults with Pathological Demand Avoidance

  • Certificate in Anger Management

  • Certificate in Motivational Interviewing & Solution Focused Therapy

  • Additional training in Counselling Clients on the Autistic Spectrum

  • Additional training in Working with Young LGBTQ+ people

I also hold a full and current DBS enhanced certificate.
